As a Latina, the hen and her alternately hysterical and nurturing characteristics has been a meaningful counterpart to the rooster; a Latino cultural symbol freighted with associations of rugged machismo and sexual bravado. With my Mexican wrestler pieces, animals and symbolic elements appear, with an active narrative more directly associated with performance, fighting, and the role of the underdog.
